In the final stretch of the summer transfer window, FC Augsburg is once again active and has secured the services of Frank Onyeka. The 26-year-old midfielder is on loan from Brentford FC and is intended to strengthen the midfield of the Bavarian Swabians. However, according to information from kicker, the Fuggerstadt team does not have an option to buy. Last season he played 26 Premier League games, but was substituted on 15 times. And in the current season he was only used as a joker.

“With the loan to FC Augsburg, I hope to get a lot of playing time and look forward to being able to play an active role in the team right away. I hope for a successful season and look forward to working with Jess Thorup again,” says Frank Onyeka, who will be reunited with Thorup at FCA, whom he knows from his time at Danish first division club FC Midtjylland. From 2017 to 2021, the now 26-year-old played in 123 games for the Danes.

“With his international experience, his athletic ability and his robustness, he brings a strong presence to the pitch,” said sporting director Marinko Jurendic, adding: “We are now well positioned in midfield for the current season as we have different types of players in our team.”

First international matches, then Augsburg

Before Onyeka arrives in Augsburg, the midfielder will first have to travel to international matches. He will soon be playing for Nigeria in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin (Saturday, September 7) and in Rwanda (Tuesday, September 10).

The transfer of Onyeka is also likely to be a reaction by FCA to the impending departure of Arne Engels. The 20-year-old Belgian is about to move to Celtic Glasgow in Scotland and, according to information from kicker, will bring Augsburg a base transfer fee of eleven million euros, which can rise to around 13 million euros through easily achievable bonuses.
