The topic of Jonathan Tah dragged on like chewing gum all summer. Is he going or not? For a long time, a transfer to FC Bayern was considered likely, but it never happened. On deadline day, Bayer 04 also said that the central defender would stay. “I have complete confidence, he is a top professional, a top guy,” stressed Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso.

Tah himself remained silent for a long time, but now the national defender, whose contract with the Werkself expires at the end of the season, has spoken out. “There has been a lot of speculation about me and my future recently. Some of the background information has not always been presented correctly, but I will definitely go into that in detail in due course,” Tah wrote on Instagram and admitted that he “has also examined transfer options in the meantime. But now it is certain that I will complete the ten years at Bayer 04!”

Tah’s Promise

Tah has developed into the undisputed defensive leader, is a consistently top-class and long-term player and has also earned his place as a leader and integration figure off the pitch. This is another reason why Leverkusen did not want to give up the player at any cost.

The 28-year-old also assured that one could be sure that “I am really looking forward to all the challenges with our team, the coaching staff and you fans this season. I promise you that I will give everything this season so that we are successful, just like we have been for the past nine years!”

The defender was confident about the coming season. “I am firmly convinced that we have a really strong team again and can make a statement in all competitions,” he wrote, referring to Bayer 04. “But now it’s time to put an end to all the speculation and focus fully on the 2024/25 season!”
