Mick Foley would “probably” have chosen MJF as his opponent for the final

When Mick Foley planned to come out of retirement for one final match, he considered MJF as his opponent.

Foley announced earlier this year that he was considering having one final fight for his 60th birthday in 2025. However, Foley canceled those plans after suffering a concussion during light training. During an appearance at Nickel City Comic Con this summer, Foley stated that if he had gone through with the idea, he probably would have chosen MJF as his opponent.

“When I was considering having that final match, I’ll tell you what — when I announced that intention, there was no shortage of people from every promotion reaching out to me. And one guy I probably would have gone with because he had obviously thought about it and planned six great weeks of television was MJF,” Foley said. “We didn’t take a picture together because we didn’t want to ruin the secret meeting, but I heard what he had to say and I really liked it. I had no doubt he would have pulled it off perfectly. He’s so good and at his best that he could have worked around my weaknesses and played to my strengths. And I think we could have done something pretty cool. MJF. Final answer.”

Foley had considered having one last fight to motivate himself to lose weight, with a deathmatch stipulation. When he first brought up the idea, Foley mentioned Matt Cardona and Jon Moxley as possible opponents.

If Foley had actually won the match, it would have been his first wrestling match since his appearance at the 2012 WWE Royal Rumble. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013.

Foley said at Nickel City Comic Con that his hip surgery in 2017 improved his quality of life and he didn’t want to risk that by wrestling again.
