Wizards Beyond Waverly Place gets premiere date; Raven-Symoné to direct

LOS ANGELES — Executive producers Selena Gomez and David Henrie present “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place,” the sequel to Disney Channel’s successful “Wizards” series.

Earlier this summer, the studio released a first look at the series’ production, showing Gomez and Henrie exploring the new set and reminiscing about their days on Wizards of Waverly Place.

Now Wizards Beyond Waverly Place has a set premiere date: Two episodes will premiere on Tuesday, October 29th at 8:00 p.m. EDT on the Disney Channel.

The new series “follows adult Justin Russo, who has chosen to live a normal, mortal life with his family Giada, Roman and Milo. When Justin’s sister Alex brings Billie home for help, Justin realizes he must brush up on his magical skills to mentor the sorceress-in-training while also fulfilling his everyday duties – and securing the future of the wizarding world.”

Gomez and Henrie weren’t the only Disney stars returning for the project. Raven-Symoné (“Raven’s Home”) and Danielle Fishel (“Girl Meets World”) will each direct episodes in the first season.

Henrie told On The Red Carpet what old and new fans can expect from the series.

“The original fans have gotten older. They’re having kids now. For example, I have three kids. We want to create a new show for them. It’s in the same spirit as the original, but in a whole new direction that will make the original fans happy and bring in new fans because there are all kinds of fun flashbacks, Easter eggs and questions that span a whole season and pay homage to the original show,” he explained.

“It feels like the same spirit. That’s what Selena and I really focused on: We wanted to make sure the spirit was the same, but in a whole new way.”

Wizards Beyond Waverly Place premieres with two episodes on Disney Channel on Tuesday, October 29th at 8:00 p.m. EDT. The first eight episodes will be available on Disney+ and Disney Channel On Demand the next day, Wednesday, October 30th.

Following the premiere on Disney Channel, two new episodes – including a Halloween episode – will premiere on Disney Channel on Wednesday, October 30. Beginning November 8, episodes will premiere every Friday at 8:00 p.m. EDT, with two episodes released weekly.
