My beauty tips for thrifty girls will save you money – a scrub from Amazon is as good as what Moroccans use in the Hammam

If you’re a beauty fanatic on a budget, here are a few tips to help you look good and save money in the long run.

Instead of spending a lot of money on products, a Moroccan woman has shared some tips from everyday culture and inexpensive items that you can buy instead, such as a scrub from Amazon.

Reddit user LallaSarora had tips for a beautiful and inexpensive beauty routine.

These were not only useful tricks for saving money, some of them also contributed to environmental protection, as the products could be used for significantly longer.

PRESS & SAVE

For example, she recommends cutting off the ends of cream tubes when they are empty.

“Generally, there will be some product left over that you weren’t able to squeeze out and you can just scoop it out and store it in an empty container,” she explained.

The same applies to cloth masks that “consist only of fabric soaked in serum.”

Instead of throwing away the packaging, she suggested squeezing out the excess serum and using it like a regular facial serum.

DIY EYELASH SERUM

Next, she encouraged others to visit a market in the Middle East and purchase 100% pure argan oil.

“We Moroccans use argan oil for all aspects of beauty, not just hair,” she said.

She explained that she rubs it on her skin, eyebrows and eyelashes every night at the end of her skincare routine.

“I get compliments on my eyelashes a lot. I don’t even wear mascara unless I’m going to a special event because my eyelashes are just long on their own,” she added.

Bachelor star Daisy Kent loves two “much cheaper” drugstore makeup brands – her favorite skincare product is an $8 moisturizer

She said she uses argan oil on her eyelashes because it “doesn’t cause sunken dark circles like some brands of eyelash serum.”

BENEFITS OF ARGAN OIL

LallaSarora raved about the “really versatile” oil in another comment.

She said that not only is it a great eyelash serum, but some people also use it to remove makeup and strengthen their nails.

“Typically, you put some of it in a bowl with an equal amount of lemon juice,” she added.

She explained that “the lemon juice whitens the nails while the argan oil strengthens them.”

She also advised women not to overdo nail care.

“All you need to do is file, shape and polish your nails, maybe with a touch of clear nail polish,” she said.

DIY TOOTH SHAPE

The Reddit user also shared a method to whiten teeth at home.

“If you don’t have a teeth whitening mold, you can make one yourself,” she said.

All you need is a football mouthguard.

Hold it under hot water with a spoon until it becomes “a little wobbly and pliable.”

“Place it on your teeth and press it down with your tongue and fingers so that it takes the shape of your teeth and gums,” she explained.

Then cut off any protruding edges.

Then apply the whitening gel to your teeth and put the mold on.

She recommended leaving it on for 10 to 15 minutes.

“It’s cheaper than having the dentist take an impression, and the whitening gel is more economical than strips,” she said.

DIY FOOTBATH

She also revealed how to make a DIY foot bath using cooking oil.

First, put warm water and the oil in a water bath.

“Soak your feet until they are soft, then scrub off dead skin.

She said you can add all sorts of things to the foot bath, such as salts, bubble bath solution, milk, herbs and even bath tea.

“After you’re done exfoliating your feet, follow up with a foot mask (these are pretty inexpensive) or rub your feet with a thick lotion or glycerin before putting on fluffy socks,” she added.

FRAGRANT FINDS

As an alternative to perfume, LallaSarora recommends Arabic attars, which are scented oils.

“Like argan oil, they are available in stores in the Middle East. They are inexpensive, very effective and the selection is huge,” she said.

They do not dry out the skin because they do not contain alcohol.

“Rubbing it on before spraying the perfume will also help the perfume last longer,” she suggested.

She also revealed that if you look hard enough, you can find some high-quality imitations of existing perfumes.

“I have a Zimaya duplicate of the famous Delina by Parfums De Marly, which not only smells 99% similar but also lasts longer,” she said.

She said the retail price is £260, or nearly $350, but she got it for £40, or around $53.

You can also use it as a hair perfume by running it through your hair. Since it is oil based, it lasts a long time.

HAIR CARE HELP

Speaking of beautiful curls, the Reddit user admitted that she is “prone to dandruff” and that aloe vera is an “amazing” solution to her problem.

“My dandruff has improved significantly since I started rubbing it into my scalp after washing my hair while it is still damp,” she added.

Small, flat, round silicone brushes, which she called “shampoo brushes,” are also an inexpensive way to combat dandruff and stimulate hair growth.

She said that in Morocco you will find a shampoo brush in every hammam package and in every toiletry bag.

“They are non-negotiable,” she added.

A hammam is a public steam bath or bathhouse in Islamic culture.

LallaSarora also mentioned an Algerian product called Kardoune, which reduces frizz, prevents hair from tangling while sleeping, and smoothes hair.

“You wrap a long, thin piece of ribbon around damp hair and form a low ponytail, rolling it tightly from top to bottom,” she explained.

“It prevents frizz and keeps hair from tangling overnight. It also helps smooth hair. Secure it with hair ties and use hair oil beforehand if you like.”

AMAZON CONSULTING

Finally, she recommended Korean bath towels from Amazon as an inexpensive exfoliator.

The website sells a set of four Korean exfoliating gloves for $8.99.

“They are literally the only exfoliating gloves I have found that are as effective as the ones Moroccans use in the hammam,” she said.

Amazon sells exfoliating mats that they say can rival those used by Moroccans in the hammam.
