Servette vs Chelsea – LIVE!

Chelsea will be confident of securing their place in the Europa Conference League when they travel to face Servette in the second leg of their play-off tie tonight. The Blues picked up a 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge and will now be looking to finish the job with the minimum of fuss.

Enzo Maresca’s side will go into this game feeling confident after their first win of the Premier League season, thrashing Wolves 6-2 at the weekend. Noni Madueke scored a hat-trick in that game and could be back in the starting line-up, but there is a real possibility that Cole Palmer will be rested.

Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell will not feature as Chelsea continue to look to sell a number of first-team players before the transfer window closes tomorrow night. Maresca has made it clear that those not in his plans “won’t get any minutes”. Follow all the action in Standard Sport’s LIVE blog below!

Armando Broja’s move to Ipswich fails

18:22 , Matt Verri

Armando Broja’s planned move to Ipswich has fallen through because the Albanian failed the medical test.

A problem was identified during his medical, which caused an agreed deal for Broja to join Ipswich on loan with a £30 million obligation to buy to fall through.

Chelsea will be hoping to offload Broja before the end of the transfer window after the Blues have not gained much match practice in recent seasons and a loan move to Fulham fell through in the second half of last season.

News about the teams will follow shortly.

How strong will Enzo Maresca be? I think he will be pretty strong, even if Cole Palmer gets a break.

Wonderful backdrop for today’s encounter…

A busy day of spending for Chelsea…

Romelu Lukaku has completed his move to Naples.

The Belgian international has ended his second nightmarish spell at Chelsea by rejoining Antonio Conte for an initial fee of around £25 million (with potential add-ons of £12 million).

Lukaku won Serie A under Conte’s management at Inter Milan in 2021 and his form saw the Blues pay £97.5 million to bring the striker back to Stamford Bridge later that year.

Tino Anjorin and Kepa Arrizabalaga also left Chelsea today and moved to Empoli and Bournemouth respectively.

Mudryk fights for Chelsea’s future

17:40 , Matt Verri

While the Conference League may be unglamorous and uncomfortable, it is still likely to be important for Chelsea’s reserve players and, despite his high price, Mykhailo Mudryk is increasingly in danger of becoming part of that group.

Mudryk started two of Enzo Maresca’s three games as manager, including the 2-0 win over Servette a week ago, but his place in the pecking order suddenly appears more precarious than at any time since his £62m move from Shakhtar Donetsk 18 months ago.

The Ukrainian was substituted for new signing Pedro Neto at half-time of Sunday’s 6-2 win over Wolves after playing a further 45 largely ineffective minutes, and Chelsea were more unruly in the second half.

Noni Madueke scored a hat-trick inside 15 minutes, while another new signing, Joao Felix, crowned his second debut with a goal from the bench, assisted by Neto.

“I didn’t speak to Misha after Wolves,” said head coach Maresca. “He is very intelligent and can understand why we made changes. You know exactly when the coach substitutes you, it’s probably because you’re not playing well.”

Chelsea should have an easy game against a team that posed some threat in the first leg but will ultimately have to do too much to save the game.

Chelsea won 3-1 that night and 5-1 on aggregate.

News from the Chelsea team

17:20 , Matt Verri

Chelsea will make changes for tonight’s Europa Conference League play-off match.

A much-changed side beat Servette at Stamford Bridge last week and a similar team is expected to play in Geneva.

Enzo Maresca registered his team for the match before they had taken the lead from the first leg, so neither Raheem Sterling nor Ben Chilwell nor a whole host of young players will get a chance.

Academy talents on the list include Tyrique George, Josh Acheampong and Kiano Dyer, but none of them are on the bench in West London.

George and Acheampong travelled to Switzerland together with 18-year-old academy midfielder Harrison McMahon.

Reece James made it, but is still out with a thigh injury. Maresca hopes that he will be fit to play again after the upcoming international break. Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia have also been injured since the win at Wolves, although the latter is not expected back until after the international break.

Joao Felix joined after the registration deadline and will therefore not fly with Chelsea; Malo Gusto and Pedro Neto are also not there.

Expected Chelsea starting eleven: Jorgensen; Disasi, Tosin, Badiashile, Veiga; Fernandez, Dewsbury Hall; Madueke, Nkunku, Mudryk; Guiu
