Documentary series about Vince McMahon gets Netflix premiere date

Netflix has set September 25th for the premiere of Mr McMahon, a six-part, one-hour documentary series directed and executive produced by Chris Smith (Tiger King)which documents the rise and fall of controversial former WWE boss Vince McMahon.

Described as a “gentle and unsparing look at one of the most enigmatic figures in sports entertainment,” the documentary follows McMahon from the transformation of WWE from a small, regional company into a global entertainment company to the explosive allegations of sexual misconduct that ultimately led to his resignation.

According to Netflix, the documentary consists of over 200 hours of interviews with McMahon himself (before his retirement), his family members, business partners and some of the most famous names in wrestling history, as well as the journalists who uncovered McMahon’s allegations – filmmaker Smith and executive producer Bill Simmons (30 for 30).

There was speculation that Netflix might not pursue the documentary, which was never officially announced, after it signed a groundbreaking 10-year, $5 billion deal for WWE’s Monday night R.Oh earlier this year. From January 2025, Netflix will be the exclusive home of Raw in the US, Canada, the UK and Latin America, with more territories to be added over time. However, Netflix has clearly pushed the project forward.

Simmons and Zara Duffy also serve as executive producers. Mr McMahon is produced by Library Films in association with Ringer Films.

“The goal behind Mr McMahon was to lift the curtain and reveal the real Vince McMahon behind the persona he presented to the world,” Smith said. “Over the course of four years of production, the story unfolded in truly shocking ways, culminating in some extremely distressing allegations. The final product is an insightful documentary that we believe offers a rich and nuanced portrait of the man and the complex legacy he left behind.”
