Restricted area reduced due to pyramid fire in the Old Cascades region

The Willamette National Forest on Wednesday lifted the closure imposed due to the Pyramid Fire and reopened areas in the Old Cascades region east of Salem and Eugene.

The Pyramid Fire, caused by a lightning strike, has burned 1,312 acres of land and was 98% contained as of Tuesday morning.

Recreational areas currently open include:

  • Crescent Mountain Hiking Trail No. 3384
  • North Pyramid Trail No. 3383
  • Pyramid Trail No. 3380
  • Scar Mountain Trail No. 3402
  • Big Springs Snow Park
  • Starting point of the Coffin Mountain Trail
  • Crescent Mountain Trailhead
  • Daly Lake Day Use/Campground
  • Maxwell Butte Snow Park
  • Lava lake
  • Starting point of the North Pyramid Trail
  • Starting point of the Pyramids Trail
  • All roads and trails that serve as closure boundaries, such as FSR-11 and the North Pyramid Trail, are open to travelers.

  • Bridge to Nowhere Trail No. 3377 and trailhead
  • Chimney Peak (Shedd Camp) Trail No. 3382 and trailhead
  • Gordan Peak Trail No. 3387 and starting point
  • McQuade Creek Trail No. 3397 and trailhead
  • Parish Lake Trail No. 3383 and trailhead
  • Pyramid Bypass Loop No. 3376
  • Riggs Lake Trail No. 3388 and trailhead
  • Swamp Peak Trail No. 3401 and trailhead
  • South Pyramid Creek (west of Cresent Mountain Trail #3403) Trail and Trailhead
  • Starting point of the Blowout Bridge Trail
  • Middle Santiam Wilderness Area
  • Starting point of the Scar Trail
  • Horse campsite in South Pyramid
