Smart shopping tips for maximum savings this Labor Day weekend

Smart shopping tips for maximum savings this Labor Day weekend

Labor Day weekend is upon us and cash-strapped Americans are trying to stretch their money.

“Labor Day is one of the best three-day weekends for sales,” explains Trae Bodge, a smart shopping expert.

She said there will be great deals on mattresses, appliances, furniture, clothing and shoes this holiday weekend.

There are discounts of over 60%, so it’s a really good time for families to plan ahead. It’s also really good for parents who may not have everything they need for back to school yet.

According to RetailMeNot, shoppers plan to spend an average of $354 over Labor Day weekend.

Target, Walmart, Home Depot, Amazon, Wayfair, Kohl’s – they have these huge discounts. I would also say if you like a brand, go straight to that brand because they have Labor Day deals.

“Shopping online makes it easier to save money, so you can compare more prices,” the expert noted.

Bodge said there are some things you should buy in person.

“If you’re buying clothes and you’re not particularly familiar with the brand, you should try things on and lay down on the mattress or sofa so you can really try the item out because it’s getting harder and harder to return things. Return fees have gone up again so you really should go in person. I would say while you’re shopping in that store, you should use your phone and compare prices online because if you find a cheaper price online, many retailers will price match yours.”

A new survey from Bankrate shows that 74% of Americans believe inflation will undo their hard work, but at the same time, the majority believe Labor Day sales offer good deals.

Experts say now is not the time to buy Christmas decorations as you can get them cheaper later. If you don’t see the sale you want, there will be another round of sales in October.
