Wednesday night was all about Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani. But the star of the show was probably Ohtani’s dog, Decoy.

The Dodgers handed out Ohtani bobbleheads to the first 40,000 fans to attend the game on Wednesday. Before the contest, Decoy had the chance to throw out – or rather, deliver – the first pitch.

Ohtani ordered Decoy to stay at the pitcher’s mound and placed the ball in front of his beloved pup. When Ohtani was in position behind home plate, Decoy picked up the ball and dropped it next to home plate.

“I think I was more nervous than Decoy before the ceremonial pitch,” Ohtani said after the game. “I’m glad everything went well.”

It was a great night for Ohtani, as he saw thousands of fans lining up hours before the first pitch to get their hands on one of the coveted bobbleheads.

Perhaps motivated by Decoy’s presence, Ohtani opened the game with a solo home run against Baltimore Orioles starter Corbin Burnes. The Dodger hitter finished 2-for-4 and scored three runs, in addition to the home run, in the Dodgers’ 6-4 victory.

Ohtani is continuing his historic season and is hoping to become the first player in MLB history to join the 50/50 club with 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases. After Wednesday’s game, Ohtani has hit 42 home runs and 42 stolen bases this year.
