Spin-off documentary to “Mr. Bates vs. The Post Office” gets release date on ITV1

A spin-off documentary about Mr. Bates vs. the Post Office has confirmed its release date.

The record-breaking drama surrounding the British postal service scandal hit theaters earlier this year and had enormous social impact.

After his success Mr. Bates v. the Post Office: The Impactis about to be released. The new documentary will focus on how the original four-part drama affected the lives of the post office managers at the centre of the story.

The documentary also highlights their ongoing fight for justice and features Alan Bates as well as prominent figures such as Jo Hamilton, Jess Uppal and Noel Thomas.

ITV has now announced that the film will be shown on Monday, September 9 at 9 p.m.

“The Post Office scandal became a real national talking point earlier this year and struck a chord with the public at large,” said Jo Clinton-Davis, ITV’s factual controller.

“The effects have been felt since then on a political level, but above all in the lives of those directly affected. This film promises to tell the story of what has happened in their lives since then, how their struggle continues and to shed light on new aspects of this scandal.”

In the real-life scandal, hundreds of post office managers were falsely accused of theft, accounting fraud or fraud due to a faulty IT system. Bates (played by Toby Jones) led their fight for justice.

Mr. Bates vs. the Post Office became ITV’s most successful new drama in over a decade when it debuted in January, averaging 9.8 million viewers across all episodes upon release.

Following its success, ITV has now commissioned a new true-life drama focusing on the contaminated blood scandal. The script is by scoopBy Peter Moffat.

Mr. Bates v. the Post Office: The Impact will air on Monday 9 September at 9pm on ITV1. Mr. Bates vs. the Post Office will be broadcast on ITV1 and streamed on ITVX.
