Suspect taken into custody in Jeanerette City Hall fire investigation – KQKI News

UPDATE: Desmond Eugene was taken into custody.

Parish of Iberia (28 August 2024)- The State Fire Marshal’s Office, in conjunction with the Jeanerette Police Department, is asking for the public’s help in locating a suspect accused of leaving a delayed incendiary device at Jeanerette City Hall.

Desmond Eugene, 44, is wanted in connection with the crime, which occurred shortly before 1 p.m. on Wednesday, August 28.
Investigators say Eugene arrived at City Hall on his bicycle and attempted to enter the part of the building where the mayor’s office is located. When that failed, Eugene started a fire using a delayed incendiary device and then left the building on his bicycle.

When the fire broke out, several people were in the town hall. Fortunately, no one was injured and the damage was minimal.

Currently, investigators are actively trying to locate Eugene in connection with this case.
