UFC veteran opens new martial arts school in his hometown of Kailua

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – UFC veteran, MMA world champion and fifth-degree black belt in taekwondo Martin Day has opened a new martial arts school in Kailua.

He joined HNN’s Sunrise with protégés Logan Tanaka, Zachary Rigdon, Lucca Blood and Shawn Kadomoto, who showcased their martial arts skills. Prime Martial Arts specializes in taekwondo and kickboxing for all ages.

“We are unique because we primarily emphasize the life skills aspect of martial arts. We develop martial artists and martial artists off the mat,” said Day. “We provide leadership training that helps our students become future martial arts teachers and community leaders.”

Day has more than 20 years of teaching experience and teaches students as young as 2. He says his studio also focuses on teaching discipline, respect and humility.

“We believe in building our students’ confidence, not only in self-defense and martial arts, but also teaching them what a high standard of living truly means,” said Day. “We believe in promoting excellence on and off the mat with values that help our students in every aspect of their lives.”

Prime Martial Arts will celebrate its grand opening on September 15th from 4-7pm with free classes for non-members, live music, food, raffles and membership specials. The event is free and open to the public.

The studio is located at 776 Kailua Road in downtown Kailua, in the former location of Kimo’s Surf Hut. For more information, call (808) 263-1911 or visit martialartscompany.com.

Prime Martial Arts is an offshoot of the Martial Arts Company (MAC), where Day studied under now-retired Grandmaster Bishaw since age 13. Other long-time instructors include Master Keegan Ho, a fifth-degree Dan black belt, and Levy Robello, a fourth-degree Dan black belt.
