Officials confirm two more family members died in a Tempe RV fire on Sunday

PHOENIX – Tempe Fire Department officials confirmed the deaths of two more family members after a devastating mobile home fire killed two more people.

The fire broke out Sunday evening in the house near Baseline and Kyrene streets.

A child and an adult, identified by police on Tuesday as three-year-old Ariareli Ruiz and 51-year-old Monica Ruiz, died in the fire, and three others were taken to hospital in critical condition.

On Tuesday, authorities announced that a second child and adult, 18-month-old Ellany Ruiz and 24-year-old Enrique “Junior” Ruiz, also died from their injuries in the fire, bringing the total death toll to four.

A fifth person, 22-year-old Valerie Magana-Gonzalez, is still in critical condition in the hospital. Officials say she is the mother of the two children.

Erya Ruiz, one of Monica’s daughters, spoke to ABC15 and said the family also lost their father in January.

“None of them deserve it… it just doesn’t make sense,” Eyra said.

“We lost Ellany last night after midnight,” Eyra said. “We were able to bring her to her mother so she could hold her one last time.”

The family says there are no words to describe the loss.

“We lost two beautiful girls, my brother and my mother. And that’s not fair, that’s not fair at all.”

A vigil is planned at the home on Wednesday at 7 p.m. A Zelle account has also been set up to help the family at [email protected].

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
