Cassadaga celebrates 100th anniversary of fire department | News, Sports, Jobs


OBSERVER Photo by Gregory Bacon The Cassadaga Fire Department turns 100 years old this year. The community is celebrating its anniversary this weekend.

CASSADAGA – The Cassadaga Fire Department is a century old and this weekend the community is celebrating its anniversary.

The fire department partners with the village and Citizens for a Better Cassadaga during the community’s annual Labor Day Festival.

On Friday, Zen City will perform at the Cassadaga American Legion Post from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

On Saturday at 8 a.m., the annual CassadagaMan will take place – a half-IronMan race in the Cassadaga area. It consists of a 1.2-mile swim around Cassadaga Lake (Lower Lake), a 28-mile bike loop that goes along Chautauqua Ridge, and a 6-mile or 13.1-mile run. The Camp Gross 18-hole two-man scramble golf tournament will take place at 9 a.m. Saturday at Cassadaga Country Club.

The opening ceremony to celebrate the fire department’s 100th anniversary will be held at 1 p.m. at the firehouse on Mill Street in the village. The Cassadaga Community Choir will perform.

A street dance on Mill Street begins at 2 p.m. with a performance by the Honkey Tonk Heroes from 2 to 5 p.m., followed by a performance by Party McFly from 6 to 9 p.m. There will also be a beer tent, Merritt Winery Slush Bus and food trucks.

On Sunday there will be a craft/farmers market from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Ames Commons on the corner of Route 60 and Maple Avenue.

The annual big parade takes place at 4 p.m.

At 5 p.m. the annual Ducky Derby takes place at the bridge on Maple Avenue.

From 6-8 p.m., Furious George will perform on Cassadaga’s floating stage, one hour later than the usual floating stage performances.

The festivities will conclude with a fireworks display at 9 p.m. at the Fessenden Ball Fields on Maple Avenue.
