LMPD interim Chief Paul Humphrey said around 12:15 p.m., an armed suspect was shot by an officer after attempting to steal a car from a woman at the pharmacy drive-thru.

Officials say the incident followed a Kentucky State Police chase on the Gene Snyder Freeway. The vehicle exited onto New Cut Road before colliding with another vehicle.

KSP officers arrested the driver, but the passenger ran into a nearby, crowded Walmart.

The driver, Jeremy Bozarth, was taken to Louisville Metro Connections, Kentucky State Police Post 4 spokesman Scotty Sharp told the Courier Journal.

When officers found the suspect – who was reportedly armed – in the front seat of a woman’s vehicle in line at the drive-thru pharmacy. He was shot multiple times through the window and his injuries are not life-threatening. The woman driving the vehicle was not injured.

Police have not released the suspect’s name.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is assisting the LMPD in the investigation.

The LMPD posted a call on X (formerly Twitter) at 1:02 p.m. for residents to avoid the area around Outer Loop and New Cut Road near the Fairdale neighborhood in south Louisville. As of 4 p.m., police had cordoned off the area where the shooting occurred. Several entrances to Walmart were also cordoned off by the LMPD.
