Air Force Football looks to turn “tough August” into a 1-0 start this Saturday

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (KKTV) – Throughout fall camp, the Air Force focused on gaining experience it was lacking.

“They worked really, really hard. We had the toughest August we’ve had since we’ve been here,” said head coach Troy Calhoun.

The Falcons only have four starters back, and even that could be tight. But where there is a lack of experience, there is also a bit of a mystery, like whether the Falcons will throw more passes with John Busha at quarterback.

Air Force opens its season hosting Merrimack, who finished below .500 at the FCS level last season, but the Falcons certainly won’t overlook them.

They’re bringing back a good amount of core players. They’ve got a solid quarterback, a really solid receiver and the No. 0 pick. So they’re a solid FCS team. I mean, it’s no different than playing Boise St or San Diego State. We’re not taking anybody lightly, sir,” Air Force linebacker Osaro Aihie said.
