Dylan Crews and Paul Skenes were the two best players for the 2023 College World Series national championship winner: LSU. Skenes was selected first in the draft, made his major league debut less than a year later, started the All-Star Game, and already looks like an ace on the mound. Crews has obviously been overshadowed, but he, too, has had a quick rise.

The center fielder was selected second in the draft, made his major league debut on Monday and hit his first home run on Wednesday.

That was 105.4 miles per hour and a distance of 399 feet, according to Statcast. It was by no means a cheap home run, as it would have been lost in all 30 stadiums.

With this at-bat, Crews started his MLB career 3-for-8 (.375) with a double and a home run. What a start.

Crews, 22, hit .426/.567/.713 with 18 home runs in 71 games his senior year at LSU. In 49 Triple-A games this season before his promotion, he hit .265/.340/.455 with 10 doubles, three triples, eight home runs, 30 RBI, 34 runs and 10 steals.

Along with left-handed left fielder James Wood, who is in the midst of a great rookie season, the Nationals have just over a month here in 2024 to showcase their future cornerstones in the outfield. Heading into the 2024 season CBS Sports talent guru RJ Anderson ranked Crews was the fifth best prospect in baseball, with Wood ranking sixth.
