Fentanyl, meth, weed, coke, guns and gangs: Record-breaking drug raid in Gwinnett County

Fentanyl, meth, weed, coke, guns and gangs: Record-breaking drug raid in Gwinnett County

The Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office celebrated a major victory after charging 47 people in a raid.

Officers seized a record-breaking amount of drugs and pills for the county.

“This is truly important work and I am proud of the men and women of the Gwinnett Sheriff’s Office who conducted this seizure,” said Deputy Chief Cleo Atwater.

During a lengthy undercover operation, drugs, weapons, money and cars were seized.

“Many people believe that once someone is charged or convicted of a crime and goes to a reformatory, their days of criminal activity are over. That’s simply not true,” Atwater said.

A total of 47 people were charged. Among them were Ulisses Chavez, known as “Rider” or “Gordo,” and Jose Adame, known as “Sniper.” Both were already behind bars. Atwater says that didn’t stop her from orchestrating things for those who were released.

“They are behind bars and have ties to the Mexican drug cartels, particularly in this case, and often in general,” Atwater said.

It was a nine-month-long operation that ended with the seizure of nearly $312,000, 14 firearms, 194 kilos of meth, 36 kilos of cocaine, six kilos of weed, more than 300 fentanyl pills, and several vehicles.

“It’s really about protecting the most vulnerable population. Our children are vulnerable to gangs, the recruitment of our children has not slowed down. In fact, it has increased,” Atwater warned parents.

The charges range from organized crime to drug trafficking to weapons offenses.

Atwater said two other people could also face charges.
