Who else played tennis in Taylor Fritz’s sporty family besides mother Kathy May?

Can Taylor Fritz become the first American player after Andy Roddick (2003) to win the US Open title? Well, he secured a comfortable win in round 1 and also made a good start in round 2 against Italian Matteo Berrettini. Now it will be important to see if he can hold on to that lead until the end of the first set. Fritz has been in good form this year and has already won two titles. It would be a historic moment not only for him but also for his tennis-loving family if he really manages to do the “unthinkable”! We know that his mother Kathy May was a tennis player herself, but who else in his family played tennis?

For those who don’t know, Kathy May reached three Grand Slam quarterfinals and won seven WTA titles in her career. Even his father Guy Fritz (who later divorced Kathy May) and his uncle Harry Fritz tried their luck in the sport. His father is now a tennis coach and has played a huge role in building his son’s career. Fritz once said of his father’s influence on his career: “As a kid, you don’t know what is right and what is wrong, so you just have to listen to what they’re telling you, and I was just lucky that I had people around me who knew what they were talking about.”

On the other hand, his uncle was a pretty well-known name in the 70s and 80s. Harry Fritz was left-handed and played college tennis for East Texas State. He was also a member of their 1972 NAIA championship team. His best result in singles was reaching R1 at the 1980 US Open and in doubles he made it to R2 at the 1981 Wimbledon Championships.
