Person and dog found dead in house fire in Pueblo, Colorado

Pueblo police and firefighters are investigating after a person and a dog were found dead in a house fire on August 28.

Pueblo Fire Department responded to a home in the 1800 block of Evans Avenue around 12:15 p.m., Tim Trujillo, a fire department spokesman, told the chiefWhen the fire brigade arrived, the house was already completely ablaze and had thick smoke.

Firefighters initiated an initial attack and search and found one person inside the apartment who was taken to a local hospital for treatment, Trujillo said. A second person and a dog were found dead.

The fire was extinguished shortly after the fire department arrived, Trujillo said. The cause of the fire is currently unknown. Police and firefighters remained on site on Wednesday evening and continued to investigate the fire.

“This is a tough day for our firefighters,” Trujillo said. “This crew is on the first day of a 48-hour shift.”

The name of the person killed will be released by the Pueblo County Coroner’s Office after their next of kin have been notified.
