Economics professor at WKU gives tips on dealing with food prices on Labor Day

BOWLING GREEN, Kentucky – For those planning to celebrate Labor Day with a festive barbecue, now is the perfect time to stock up on groceries.

Despite high food prices, holiday deals can provide some relief for those on a tight budget. Economists say that although special offers are more common during the holidays, they do not have a significant impact on the overall inflation rate.

Sebastian Leguizamon, associate professor of economics, explains: “When we talk about downward pressure on prices, it means that while individual items are becoming cheaper, overall prices tend to rise.”

Since inflation continues to be influenced by supply and demand dynamics, it is difficult to see significant price declines.

Even with temporary discounts, the general trend is for prices to continue to rise. Shoppers are advised to take advantage of all holiday offers, but to budget wisely.
