Nobody knows exactly when the next Witcher game will be released – not even CD Projekt RED. The studio certainly has some kind of internal goal, but AAA game development is not a linear and perfect process, and delays are always possible. Despite this, CDPR is starting work on Polaris, with 410 developers involved in the new Witcher RPG, and company management has given a small hint as to when we can expect the game to be released.

In a Current questions and answers with investorsCD Projekt executives have revealed an interesting piece of news about the pre-order policies of PlayStation and Xbox digital stores, which also offers a small hint or hint about the release of The Witcher 4.

Q: Can you please tell when you will be able to inform the market about the final release date of the next game or what milestone you need to reach to be able to set the release date?

A: We will let the market know the release date when we start pre-orders. That’s obviously the answer. There’s no magic anymore. I can probably narrow it down because, for example, on the console’s digital storefronts, you can’t start pre-orders more than a year in advance. [before] the start date. So that gives you an idea.

We don’t really say anything specific about milestones and so on.

Once Polaris starts accepting pre-orders, CD Projekt must bring the game to market within a year.

Another question provides more information about Polaris. CD Projekt could potentially launch the new Witcher game in a 4-5 year timeframe, as is typical for the company’s production and release schedule. It all depends on when Polaris first entered R&D and pre-production; we could see The Witcher 4 sometime in 2026 or even 2027, depending on when the game was in the initial planning stages.

Q: When a AAA game enters the production phase, how long does it usually take to get to market? Is there a reason Polaris takes less or longer?

A: The answer to this question generally varies greatly from game to game, and I’m speaking very generally here because there are AAA games that were made maybe three years ago and there are games that have been in production for a very long time.

Historically, our games took about 4-5 years to release from the moment of launch to the moment of release.

Is there a reason why Polaris takes longer or shorter?

Nothing that really comes to mind. There are all kinds of tools available to continue on the normal path.
