Firefighters in San Jose extinguished a vegetation fire that spread to a residential building Wednesday afternoon, damaging the house and two sheds on surrounding properties, authorities said.

The San Jose Fire Department received multiple calls about a vegetation fire between Highway 101 northbound and a residential development to the east in the Coyote-Fontanelle neighborhood beginning at about 12:30 p.m. A second alarm was raised about the incident at 12:52 p.m.

The fire brigade later posted pictures and information about the fire on X.

Officials said the fire spread to a single residential building in the 400 block of Fontanelle Dr., forcing crews to move to defensive measures to limit the number of buildings affected. Firefighters set up three separate branches to contain the fire. The structure fire was extinguished at 1:34 p.m.

In addition to the damage to the house, which left three adults and two children homeless, two sheds on neighboring properties were also damaged by the fire. According to the fire department, the vegetation fire destroyed about three hectares of land.

There were no injuries to residents or firefighters during the incident. The cause of the fire is currently being investigated.
