Wastewater leak in Meydenbauer Bay leads to health warning

A sewage leak occurred in Meydenbauer Bay, Seattle, prompting King County Health officials to warn residents and their pets to stay away from the area.

“Due to potentially toxic algae, it is not safe to swim in Lake Ballinger or bring dogs and pets near the water,” the city of Edmonds said in a social media statement Tuesday.

According to the city of Bellevue, a contractor damaged a sewer pipe, causing sewage to flow into the bay.

Wastewater tests in Meydenbauer Bay are underway

The poor condition of the bay was reported late Monday, August 26, according to the city of Edmonds. The city said testing was underway. The city of Bellevue released a graphic of the sewage spread and warned residents to stay out of the water until September 2.
