Alton: “Garage fire” emergency call shows only minor damage

Alton, Iowa – The Alton Fire Department was recently called to a garage fire in Alton.

According to Alton Fire Chief Quintin Van Es, the Alton Fire Department was called to a garage fire at 308 11th Street in Alton.

The chief says firefighters saw smoke coming from the garage door as they approached the fire. He says they ran a line inside but found little visible flame. What they found was a smoldering pile of what he called “decorative items.”

Van Es says no injuries were reported and there was no damage to buildings.

The Orange City Fire Department also responds to emergency calls from Alton (and vice versa), so Orange City firefighters were also on scene.

He says the cause of the fire is unknown.

He tells us that the firefighters were on site for 30 to 35 minutes.
