Little River man released from Justice Department custody after Jan. 6 uprising

A Little River man was released from U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) custody earlier this month for his role in the January 6 insurrection.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, 29-year-old Nicholas Languerand was among the rioters standing near the archway leading from the Lower West Terrace into the Capitol.

He is charged with assault, resisting or obstructing an officer with the use of a dangerous weapon, rioting, aiding and abetting, intentionally entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority with the use of a dangerous weapon, and violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.

Languerand was arrested on April 15, 2021 and charged less than a month later, on May 12.

On November 3, 2021, he entered into a guilty plea agreement. On January 26, 2022, he was sentenced to 44 months in prison, followed by two years of probation, 60 hours of community service, and $2,000 in restitution.

He was released from Justice Department custody on August 6.
