The MGP driver had previously given a “non-negative” value and was excluded from the event

It has now been confirmed that Manx Grand Prix competitor Alex Sinclair tested positive for a “recreational drug” at this year’s races.

Race officials say the latest development is due to a “confirmatory analysis in an accredited laboratory.”

The MGP participant was excluded from this year’s event with immediate effect last Tuesday (20 August) after a random sample test initially showed a “non-negative” result.

ACU Events Ltd adds: “The quantitative result of the confirmatory analysis is consistent with abuse of a controlled drug.”

The matter is now before the Auto Cycle Union – the sanctions for participants caught doping can include a ban from ACU competitions for at least two years.
