Local sex offender charged after investigation

An Edgar Springs man who is a registered sex offender faces two felony charges following a recent investigation by the Texas County Sheriff’s Department.

Cody A. Dewitt, 34, 523 County Road 2590 in Edgar Springs, is charged with two counts of failure to register as a sex offender.

A deputy reported that on August 25, a sheriff’s officer asked the officer to confirm that Dewitt worked at Hardee’s restaurant in Houston. Dewitt was convicted of sexual abuse in November 2015 and is required by state law to report to TCSD every 90 days and report any changes in employment and/or transportation within three days of the change.

Dewitt reportedly failed to disclose that he had worked at Hardee’s for approximately eight months or that he used a different vehicle to get to and from work.

On August 26, the officer went to Hardee’s, arrested Dewitt, and took him to jail.

Bail for the charge is set at $2,000 cash.
