Tallahassee and FAMU police departments announce road closures and offer tips for home game days

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – College football season has begun, and local law enforcement is providing tips and announcing road closures to ensure a safe gaming experience on home game days in the capital city.

According to a press release from the City of Tallahassee, both the Tallahassee and Florida A&M police departments have prepared for “a safe and enjoyable FAMU football game experience.”

The city announced that during home games, traffic patterns around Bragg Stadium will change, which could impact surrounding areas. Tallahassee police will coordinate traffic control before and after home games, with streets closed two hours before games.

There will be traffic disruptions at the following locations:

  • Althea Gibson Way (formerly Wahnish Way) and Robert & Trudie Perkins Way
  • Perry Street and Robert & Trudie Perkins Way
  • Boosters are permitted south of the two road closures mentioned above.
  • Perry and Okaloosa Street (no northbound traffic)
  • Althea Gibson Way and Okaloosa Street

Tallahassee police will also close streets during Frenchtown Rising, which takes place the Friday night before each home game, according to the city. Macomb Street will be closed from Carolina Street to Brevard Street from noon to 1 a.m. for the event, the city said.

FAMU and Florida State will have a joint home game on November 2nd, so there will be heavy traffic on Tennessee Street, West Pensacola Street, South Monroe Street, Gaines Street, Lake Bradford Road and Orange Avenue before and after the games.

The city said a separate announcement will be released with specific details about FAMU Homecoming.
