More Square Enix games will be released on Xbox, confirms Naoki Yoshida

Eurogamer recently interviewed Final Fantasy XIV Producer and director Naoki Yoshida on the current status of the title after the release of Morning trail.

However, the final question, which was about Japanese games on Xbox, was about Square Enix’s reach as a whole.

Yoshida acknowledged that it is difficult to release games on the Xbox simply because there are “extremely few Xbox users” in the Japanese market, so from a business perspective, other platforms take priority.

However, Yoshida then said that Square Enix has changed its policy. They are moving towards multiplatform releases, and Final Fantasy XIV was the starting point. He also clarified that more Square Enix games will be released on Xbox.

Below you can see a quoted relevant comment from the interview:

We’re now moving towards the strategy of releasing our games on multiple platforms, and we really want as many players as possible to play our titles. So with Final Fantasy 14 as a starting point, we want to release more Square Enix games on Xbox, and more of our titles will be coming to Xbox, so I hope players are excited about future things that will be coming to that platform.

The new extension in Morning trailtakes us across the western seas to a land called Tural. Tural is less developed than most of the lands we’ve visited, but that doesn’t mean it’s uninhabited. The land is ruled by a two-headed Mamool Ja named Gulool Ja Ja. The expansion focuses on a battle for the rights to his throne in the great city of Tuliyollal. That battle is to find the fabled City of Gold, and the Scions race all over Tural in search of it.

Pictomancer is a magical ranged DPS who possesses a giant magical brush and palette. His attacks are equipped with a variety of colorful color effects. The Final Fantasy XIV Pictomancer is said to have greater abilities than his Final Fantasy VII Counterpart and can paint landscapes in addition to monsters. There will also be a new Viper job and a level cap of 100.

Final Fantasy XIV is available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC and Xbox Series X|S.
