Video shows person linked to fatal shooting of Chicago postal worker Octavia Redmond

Chicago police have released video footage of a wanted person in connection with the fatal shooting of a postal worker in West Pullman last month.

Octavia Redmond, 48, was fatally shot July 19 while delivering mail in the 12100 block of South Harvard Avenue, Chicago police said.

Video footage released Tuesday shows a person dressed all in black jumping out of the passenger seat of a black SUV, running across the street and returning to the car about 10 seconds later.

Police also released video of the person before the shooting getting into a white SUV in the 7000 block of South Campbell Avenue.

Redmond was standing outside a house around 11:40 a.m. when someone shot her, police said.

She was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition, where she was later pronounced dead, police said. She suffered 26 gunshot wounds to her body, according to the police report.

The US Postal Inspection Service is offering a $250,000 reward for information in this case.

Colleagues at the post office remember Redmond as a loving mother and grandmother, and as the wife of another postal worker. The mailmen’s union, which represented Redmond, called for action after her outrageous death.

“We want to go home to our families. Unfortunately, one of us is not going home. That’s a problem,” Elise Foster, president of the National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 11, said in July.

According to Foster, more than 140 mail carriers have been attacked on the job in Chicago since August 2022.
