Wayne County man has only one hit on his scratch-off ticket but wins $1 million

TAYLOR, Mich. – A Wayne County man only had one hit on his scratch-off ticket, but it ended up being worth $1 million.

The 53-year-old man purchased his Gold Multiplier winning ticket at the Tel-Wick Amoco Service Center on Telegraph Road in Taylor.

“I scratched the ticket and saw that one number was correct, but I didn’t scratch off the winning amount right away,” he said. “I scratched off the rest of the ticket and saw that I didn’t have any more numbers correct, so I scratched off the winning amount. When I saw that the prize was $1 million, my jaw dropped. I immediately called my son and fiancée to tell them the news.”

The man visited Michigan Lottery headquarters to claim his prize and chose the lump sum of $693,000 over annual payments. He chose to remain anonymous.

“The win is life-changing and one of the best things that has ever happened to me,” he said. “I’ve been nervous for days and it still doesn’t seem real.”

He said he wanted to help his family with the winnings.
