Crysis footage from unannounced Battle Royale spin-off leaked

Crytek is under fire for a leak in Crysis (Crytek)

Gameplay footage of an as yet unannounced Crysis battle royale shooter codenamed Crysis Next has surfaced online.

Before Crytek announced that it While the studio is developing Crysis 4 in 2022, it is said to be working on an online multiplayer spin-off codenamed Crysis Next.

This rumor comes from leaked documents from 2020, which described Crysis Next as a “free-to-play battle royale game that pits hundreds of players against each other.” However, despite the leak, Crytek never officially announced Crysis Next.

Now, four years later, footage of the project has surfaced online, showing the third-person shooter in action, albeit in a very early form.

Crytek has already removed much of the footage, and many videos now show a copyright claim by the company. However, some are still online at the time of writing.

The copyright claims confirm the authenticity of the footage, although it is very likely that the project was canceled as the studio is currently working on Crysis 4.

Based on the clips, however, it doesn’t look particularly promising for a studio known for its graphically demanding first-person shooters. If you’ve played Fortnite or PUBG: Battlegrounds, the footage is exactly what you’d expect from a Crysis take on the genre, complete with customizable nanosuit loadouts.

However, the developer already has some experience with competitive shooters, most notably with 2019’s Hunt: Showdown, which even included a Battle Royale-inspired mode.

Crytek has not released any updates on Crysis 4 since it was announced over two years ago. At the time, it was said to be “in early development” and the team said it would be “a while yet” before it was released.

The last installment in the series was 2013’s Crysis 3, which was a sales flop for publisher Electronic Arts. Since then, Crytek has released remastered versions of all three titles in a trilogy compilation.

Crysis 3 still
