Residents speak out about Monday night’s shooting at Rochester Apartments – ABC 6 News

The ABC 6 News team presents the local, regional and national news of the day, in-depth events and breaking stories, as well as the latest sports and weather reports including the extended weather forecast.

(ABC 6 News) – Residents said they were alarmed after a shooting at an apartment complex in the 1100 block of 41st Street Northwest in Rochester Monday night.

Winter Malone and Eli Atak were on their way to a nearby store when they heard “five or six” gunshots.

When they returned to the apartment, they saw some people running and heard that there had been a shooting.

“I never thought something like this would happen in our neighborhood,” Malone said.

For many, the situation was alarming because of the children living in the complex.

“It’s very scary … there are a lot of children here and you want to be protected where you live,” said Felica Thomas, who has lived in the apartment for two years.

Jared Ludowese has lived in the apartment complex for nine years and said he also heard the bangs.

He said he immediately recognized the sound as gunshots and less than a minute later the police arrived.

Ludowese said this is not the first time such an incident has occurred, but the response to these incidents still makes him feel safe.

“There is actually no way to prevent violence, but you can respond to violence and, in my experience, the response has been consistently excellent,” Ludowese said.

Rochester Police are currently investigating this incident.
