Classes at North Country Union High School begin September 3

NEWPORT — Classes for ninth-graders at North Country Union High School will begin Sept. 3, and many will be taught in tents. The remaining grades will begin the 2024-2025 school year the following day, Sept. 4.

After testing during this summer’s efforts to contain polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in the school’s B and C wings produced disappointing results, school officials were desperately looking for ways to reopen the school for in-person instruction as close as possible to the scheduled first day of school.

For this purpose, six tents have been set up on campus, three for administrative offices and another three for classes. All have electricity, flooring, heating and other amenities.
