Back to School Shopping Tips to Save Your Wallet

Back to School Shopping Tips to Save Your Wallet

BUFFALO, NY — Families spend an average of $423 on back-to-school clothing, according to MarketWatch, so 7 News brings you some tips from a mom and a thrift store owner.

  • Shop at second-hand stores or consignment shops
  • Buy five T-shirts that can be combined with pants
  • Target and Old Navy offer back-to-school sales

Nicole Ballisteria, a mother from Lancaster, says she was looking for ways to shop for her preschooler.

“Everything is so expensive these days that you have to plan and set a budget. We’re planning to buy a lot of sets,” said Ballisteria.

Ballisteria says she bought her daughter tracksuits, muted T-shirts and plain pants just so she could mix and match.

“Just mix and match so you don’t spend a lot of money,” Ballisteria said.

Target and Old Navy are offering specials where you can get 50% off kids’ t-shirts when you order them online.

Ballisteria also recommends shopping at secondhand stores, such as Kristi Mora’s Bella Kids sale.

“I think buyers should focus on the basics. Look at resale options. Not only are you doing something good for the environment, but you’re getting more for less,” Mora said.

Bella Kids’ next pop-up will be November 8-10 at Depew Grapevine Plaza, 333 Dick Road.
