Record heat expected for Wednesday; first warnings in effect

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) – Initial warnings are in effect for both Wednesday and Thursday as heat and humidity increase, with a heat index above 100 degrees both days.

Wednesday will start with lows of 65 degrees before afternoon highs of 95 degrees in Charlotte. Depending on how hot it gets, the high could be record-breaking. Another air quality warning is possible.

Thursday will be another hot day with temperatures around 35 degrees. The difference is that there will be some rain for the first time in a long time, although it will be scattered at best.

The chance of rain and thunderstorms will increase again on Friday, increasing slightly over the weekend. Highs on Friday, Saturday and Sunday will be around 90 degrees.

In the coming week, temperatures will drop by several degrees and reach over 26 degrees.
