MSNBC’s Katie Phang says Trump is getting “worse with age”

MSNBC commentator Katie Phang filled in for Chris Hayes on Tuesday’s episode of “All In” and took a few minutes to discuss some of Donald Trump’s more odd and embarrassing appearances in recent memory.

Phang then concluded that Trump is becoming “more Trumpian” “as he gets older.”

“The emperor has never worn clothes and it shows,” she said.

“Donald Trump has never had a reputation for being honest, for being adept at political issues, for being coherent, or for reading cleanly from the teleprompter. In the past month, since Kamala Harris became his election opponent, Trump has performed even worse in numerous interviews and appearances,” Phang noted.

Among the recent events related to Trump, Phang also mentioned the uncomfortable interview with Elon Musk a few weeks ago, which was largely characterized by the ex-president’s awkward slurred pronunciation.

She then mentioned the awkward moment on the final night of the DNC when Trump called Fox News and launched into an incomprehensible tirade against Harris — constantly accidentally pressing the buttons on his phone — only to be interrupted by the visibly uncomfortable Fox anchors.

She then played several clips of Trump saying confusing things in public.

“Some of it came from a highly publicized campaign rally in Wilkes, Barre, Pennsylvania last week, where Trump was supposed to mobilize volunteers in a crucial swing state,” Phang continued. “But many supporters left the event during his rambling 100-minute speech. One of those in attendance told reporters she was fed up with Trump, saying, ‘I’ve thought about voting for him again because Biden has been so bad for the economy and Kamala isn’t going to be any better. But after listening to this, I’m actually scared of Trump being president again. I don’t know what he was talking about half the time. Maybe he’s always been like this, but he seems worse, more unstable.'”

“On Monday, during an appearance at Arlington National Cemetery, Trump gave photographers a disrespectful thumbs up over the graves of fallen Marines. On social media, Trump responded to Harris’ speech last week by posting nearly 60 angry posts in a matter of hours. And just yesterday, Trump deleted another post that he apparently wrote too quickly, a post that said, ‘These are great patriots who work with all their hearts and are strong and powerful,’ which was completely misspelled,” Phang added. “‘Only to be bullied by border czar Kamala Harris.'”

“I mean, look, he’s always been deluded, incoherent, mean, dishonest and impulsive. That’s just Trump,” Phang said. “But the older he gets and the more he tries to gain a foothold in a changed race, the more, shall we say, Trumpian Trump becomes. The emperor never wore clothes and it shows. But is that enough to bring him down?”
