Vietnam Airlines Lotusmiles offers SkyTeam status matching on 46 airlines (top tier matching)

Vietnam Airlines, the national carrier of Vietnam based in Hanoi, has just launched a new, comprehensive status match campaign that could be useful for anyone flying on SkyTeam member airlines and holding status in any of the 46 loyalty programs covering almost the entire globe.

Vietnam Airlines Lotusmiles offers (up to) Platinum status.

Lotusmiles is the loyalty program of Vietnam Airlines, a SkyTeam member airline based in Vietnam. The airline today launched a new status match campaign that allows you to secure 12 months of status with the airline, provided you have a certain status with one of the other airlines whose status is being matched and are willing to pay a fee.

There are four status levels at Vietnam Airlines. These are:

• Silver: Silver members enjoy preferential rates when purchasing seats in advance and priority for seat confirmation when Vietnam Airlines swaps flights.
• Titanium: Priority check-in at the airport and one additional baggage item beyond the standard allowance. Also qualifies for SkyTeam Elite tier.
• Gold: In addition to all Titanium benefits, Gold tier includes Business Class lounge access, priority airport check-in and more. Gold members also qualify for SkyTeam Elite tier and all eligible benefits.
• Platinum: The Platinum tier includes access to all Gold tier benefits, priority queue access, and two additional bags in addition to standard benefits. Platinum members also qualify for SkyTeam Elite Plus tier and all eligible benefits, which means they are allowed to bring a companion into the lounge across the SkyTeam network.

Which airline status is checked?

Lotusmiles now offers status to the following status holders on 46 airlines. Many of them are oneworldwide or member airlines of the Star Alliance. From an Indian perspective, Air India Flying Returns members are treated equally. The status equality enables parity with major airlines such as Lufthansa, Swiss, Etihad, Emirates, British Airways, Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines and Qantas.

How do I apply for the status match?

Vietnam Airlines has partnered with Status Match Co to offer status matching. You must Register on this website. Lotusmiles Status Match is subject to a fee and the fee is based on your location for the Titanium tier (entry level status match).

• Titan Level (SkyTeam Elite)
  • The application fee is USD 59 for citizens of Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, China and Thailand.
  • For applicants from Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Norway, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom and the United States, it costs USD 99.
• Gold Level (SkyTeam Elite) costs USD 159
• Platinum Level (SkyTeam Elite Plus) costs USD 299

• Priority baggage handling upon arrival, regardless of travel class

To participate in the promotion, you must apply, provide information about your airline status and pay the relevant application fee. During the application process, you will also be asked for proof of your frequent flyer status.

Status match processing and decision making takes three business days. Once approved, your new status will appear in your account within five business days.
