Since its founding in 2006 Roblox has become the subject of several hilarious memes (or funny pictures).

The hugely popular online game and game development platform has done what only a select few titles in the world of gaming have managed to do – it has transcended the medium and become more than just a video game – it has become a staple of modern pop culture.

Roblox has around 70 million daily users (via DemandSage), making it by far the largest game (or platform) in the world in terms of daily/monthly users. Because of this, the jokes and funny moments that come out of it have a high chance of becoming international phenomena, as so many others have done.

The origins of this particular meme go back to a series of server outages that Roblox Platform in October 2021, where the entire site was closed for maintenance for the first time in several years.

As gamers are driven away from the online platform, October 2021 will always remain a particular pain point for the community (even if it can be laughed about now) and is often mentioned in jest when it comes to personal conflicts, traumas or suffering of any kind.

Bobux

Bobux is one of the few Robux (the Roblox-based online currency) memes are said to have originated from the game.

The term Bobux is used in memes for the in-game currency, usually in the context of lacking or having way too much money.

Its origins date back to a Discord conversation in 2020, where a user named ImmaSimp first used the word. From there, it quickly gained momentum and became a mainstay among the Roblox community.

One of the most popular Roblox Minigames that have gained importance in recent years are Dress to impress. And so, of course, fans have become attached to parts of this extremely popular Roblox Creation, this is the so-called “Pose 28”.

In the online model simulator, players choose outfits and pose on the catwalk. “Pose 28” is a special movement that can be used when showing off your character, in which the avatar in the game holds its hands behind its back in a funny way and stretches its pelvis forward.

Due to the strange and uniquely funny nature of the move, it has gone viral online (mainly on TikTok), appearing in many videos both in and out of the game.

In June 2024, modular furniture kit magnate IKEA became the focus of another meme within the Roblox Universe.

This will be confusing for those who have never been in Roblox‘s polygonal worlds, but for fans of the game it’s something big.

The Despacito Spider meme comes from a character from the Roblox Robloxian High School Minigame. He is a bizarre pill-shaped creature with eight spider legs and a name inspired by the hugely popular (and even meme-worthy) song “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee.

With his friendly yet terrifying appearance, Despacito Spider is the stuff of nightmares among Roblox Fanbase, usually portrayed as an unexplained, horror-tinged presence in images and videos.

Are you stupid

Like any online community Roblox seems to have developed a language of its own. These phrases are used by the community to communicate various thoughts and feelings both in and out of the game.

The most important thing about these specific expressions is “Are you stupid?” This nonsensical phrase is often used in response to something ridiculous and can be seen in chat boxes all over the world. Roblox Platform.

Roblox is banned in Turkey

Like some of the other memes on this list, this one was born out of something taken straight from the headlines surrounding Roblox and its popular community.

On August 7, 2024 Roblox was banned in Turkey on the grounds of child exploitation. The news of its ban in the European nation exploded among the Roblox loyal and eventually became a meme like so many other moments before.

The meme itself was born out of the extreme reactions to this news, including fans who are incredibly sad/devastated/heartbroken to learn that they will no longer be able to play the game in this country.
