Thanks to schedule oddity, Rangers 3B sees his little brother in the Major League

CHICAGO — Josh Jung will probably never have a day this bad again.

Due to a scheduling surprise, the Rangers arrived in Chicago on Sunday night and stayed at the same hotel where another J. Jung was already booked: his younger brother Jace and his teammates from the Detroit Tigers. That way, Josh, who is nearly three years older than Jace, had the opportunity to watch his younger brother play on Monday, less than two weeks after his first call-up to the major leagues. The boys’ father, Jeff, had noticed last week’s schedule, so the brothers could plan better to make the most of the reunion.

Forever Jung: Josh and Jace are both in the major leagues now. What advice can big brother give?

“That will probably never happen again,” Josh Jung said Tuesday afternoon. “It was just surreal to be there and be proud of him.”

The brothers ate breakfast on Monday. Josh had given his little brother a playful piece of advice during his first week in the major leagues: Watch out for the cost of room service breakfast. So they went to a nearby restaurant and were joined by their Rangers teammates Wyatt Langford, Travis Jankowski and Andrew Heaney. It was still much cheaper than room service. And even better: Heaney picked up the tab.

Then Josh went to the park alone to watch the Tigers’ game against Chicago. Jace had two hits in five at-bats, including the game-winning single in the seventh inning of a 6-3 win. And that wasn’t the only reunion of the day for Josh. White Sox starting pitcher Davis Martin was his teammate for two years at Texas Tech.
