First day of the US Open records impressive attendance record

The first day of the US Open on Monday, August 26, brought the largest crowd on a single day in the history of this major event.

A record-breaking 74,641 fans attended the tournament during the day and night sessions at Flushing Meadows in New York City.

A total of 42,886 fans attended the day session, which is the second highest attendance for day sessions in US Open history. The night session, which starred Novak Djokovic and Frances Tiafoe, brought a record 31,775 fans.

This was an impressive start to the last major of the tennis season.

This year’s US Open will be missing two tennis legends – Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray. Nadal withdrew from the tournament because he did not feel 100% ready. He is expected to return at the Laver Cup. Murray retired from tennis after his loss at the Paris Olympics. However, this did not seem to affect the viewer numbers.

Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, Iga Swiatek and Jessica Pegula will compete on the second day of the US Open. It will be interesting to see the field numbers for the rest of the tournament after the first day set the bar high.
