The 2024–25 Serie A season is back with a bang, with the usual giants looking to challenge for the title while other clubs hope to pull off a surprise Champions League win like Bologna did last season. Inter and AC Milan appear to be the favourites to win the league on paper, but teams like Juventus and Atalanta will be hoping to spoil the party in what will be another exciting season.

Match of the week: Juventus vs. AS Roma

The big clash of the weekend takes place on Sunday when Juventus host AS Roma at the Allianz Stadium. The Bianconeri are the only team to have won their first two games of the season and now lead the Serie A table with six points, while Daniele De Rossi’s team had a difficult start as Roma drew away with Cagliari and later lost at home to Empoli last Sunday. This is probably the first big test for both teams and will tell us a lot about their ambitions and level.

AC Milan should react

After the disastrous away game against Parma last Saturday and the disappointing home game against Torino in the first game of the season, AC Milan’s Paulo Fonseca is already under pressure and will have to react on Saturday but will face Lazio, who lost to Udinese in their last away game. Marco Baroni’s side had a strong first game against Venezia but then lost to Udinese, while AC Milan can count on USMNT player Christian Pulisic, who has been by far the best news for AC Milan fans in these first two games after scoring his first goal of the season against Parma on Saturday.

  • Location: Stadio Olimpico – Rome, Italy

Big Friday night

Before those two games, Inter host Atalanta at San Siro in their second game of the weekend. Inter won at home against Lecce but have not been quite convincing, while Atalanta are struggling with some changes to their squad after losing to Torino in their second away game of the season. Atalanta have finally reached an agreement with Juventus on the transfer of Teun Koopmeiners and Gian Piero Gasperini are still looking for his replacement in the final days of the summer transfer window.
