Tips for starting school: Have meaningful conversations with children

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — For many students, it will be their first time back to school at the start of the new school year, and it will be a turbulent day – especially for the younger children.

On the first day of school, you will get to know new faces and names and have to remember when to come for lunch and recess.

As parents, we always want to know everything about our children’s day, but some children are not always so open and transparent.

Tips for improving your child’s homework environment at home will set them up for success this year.

Maybe they find it difficult to put it into words.

Action News spoke with Dr. Nika Fabienke, educator and senior curriculum director at ABCmouse, about how to have meaningful conversations with your children as they leave school.

She thinks there is a better way than the classic parental question: “How was your day?”
