Freight train stops on tracks after fire in Burke, Virginia – NBC4 Washington

A freight train stopped on the tracks in Burke, Virginia, on Tuesday afternoon after a wagon caught fire.

Shortly after 3:15 p.m., Fairfax County firefighters arrived at the railroad tracks in the 9300 block of Lee Street and found a railroad car full of wooden ties – the wooden supports that lie between the two metal rails – in flames.

The train had stopped on the tracks, which made it take longer to extinguish the fire, the Fairfax County Fire Department told News4.

By 4:45 p.m., the fire was extinguished. Footage from NewsChopper4 showed the train still smoking on the tracks and a carriage full of charred, blackened pieces of wood.
