Tour Championship starting positions and tee times: Where will golfers open on the leaderboard at East Lake?

With two playoff events under its belt, the PGA Tour will arrive in East Lake this week to wrap up the season with the Tour Championship and conclude the race for the FedEx Cup.

The rankings will look a bit strange, at least on Thursday.

The Tour Championship will have a staggered start to the rankings, giving top-ranked Scottie Scheffler a significant advantage in Atlanta. Scheffler, who has won six times on Tour this season, will begin the week at 10 under par.

“I try not to treat it any differently. Like I said, the format of the starting shots is a little different. It’s not a traditional golf tournament,” Scheffler said Tuesday.

“But at the end of the day, the format is what it is. I’m going to try to approach it the same way I approach other tournaments, which is to go to the first tee and do my best to execute my shot, just like I would at the Masters, the RBC Heritage or Palm Springs. Every tournament, I go to the first tee, see my shot and try to hit it, and then I go from there.”

Xander Schauffele, who finished second overall, will start this week at 8 under par. Hideki Matsuyama starts at 7 under par and Keegan Bradley – who won the BMW Championship on Sunday to secure a spot in the East Lake field – starts at 6 under par. This system will apply until the final five players in the 30-man field, who will start at even par.

The tournament winner receives the FedEx Cup, which comes with a bonus of $25 million and a five-year exemption from the PGA Tour.
