Massive fire in apartment complex leaves 12 families homeless in Conroe

CONROE, Texas (KWTX) – At least twelve families in North Texas were left homeless after a massive fire ravaged their apartment complex.

According to the Conroe Fire Department’s Facebook page, firefighters responded to an apartment fire at 1840 Longmire Road on August 25.

The firefighters arrived at the scene at around 7:17 p.m. and immediately intervened to extinguish the fire. By around 8:09 p.m. the fire was considered under control.

According to the Conroe Fire Department’s Facebook page, the fire likely started on a ground-floor patio and then spread to the building’s attic.

Although the living spaces inside the building were protected by sprinkler systems, the exterior balcony/terrace areas were not equipped with sprinklers at the time the building was constructed, in accordance with building codes.

While no injuries or deaths were reported, the fire left 12 families homeless and several pets lost their lives, according to the Conroe Fire Department’s Facebook page.

The Conroe Fire Department’s Office of the Fire Chief is currently investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
