With hunting season beginning across the state, hunters can once again head out into Wisconsin’s wilderness.

The DNR also directs hunters to mobile-friendly online resources, including hunting regulations, season dates, hunting times and more on the DNR’s hunting webpage. For information on species population levels and hunting opportunities, hunters can visit the DNR’s fall hunting forecasts.

A list of public hunting lands is available on the Public Access Lands website. This web resource allows hunters to plan their next adventure from the comfort of their own home.

The Fields and Forest Lands interactive wild bird hunting tool provides hunters with information on managed dove fields and habitats for hunting ruffed grouse and woodcock.

As Wisconsin’s most popular hunting seasons approach, it is important for all hunters to do their part to make Wisconsin a safe hunting area by following these firearm safety rules:

  • T – Treat every firearm as if it were loaded.
  • A – Always point the muzzle in a safe direction.
  • B – Be sure of your goal and what lies before and beyond it.
  • K – Keep your finger outside the trigger guard until you are ready to fire.

Anyone born on or after January 1, 1973, must have hunting education to obtain a hunting license unless hunting under the Mentored Hunting Law. Learn more about safe hunting in Wisconsin and sign up for a hunting education course on the DNR website.
