Police in San Jose arrest four people suspected of sending messages to minors for sexual acts

Police in San Jose announced on Tuesday the arrest of four men who allegedly attempted to send messages to minors with the intent to perform sexual acts.

According to a statement from the department, the arrests are the result of an investigation conducted by the department’s Internet Crimes Against Children and Child Exploitation Special Unit earlier this month. Police said the investigation involved online messages in which they arranged to meet with a minor and arrived at a location where the suspects were arrested.

On August 13, police arrested 32-year-old Jonathan Nunez of Watsonville. The next day, 37-year-old Carlos Mendez of Hayward was arrested. On August 15, Christopher Roark of Antioch was arrested. All three arrests occurred in San Jose.

According to officials, the three suspects were booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for attempting to communicate with a minor for the purpose of sexual communication.

Police said a fourth suspect, identified as Christopher Hus of Los Gatos, fled when authorities attempted to arrest him on Aug. 16. After investigators obtained an arrest warrant, Hus was tracked down and arrested by the California Highway Patrol in Union City.

According to prison records, Mendez and Hus remain in custody and cannot be released on bail.
